Information About Cosmetic Veneers

Here at Biddeford Saco Dental Associates we are pleased to offer state-of-the-art dentistry with maximum cosmetic appeal.  When more dramatic changes to the front teeth are needed, sometimes bleaching and bonding with composite are not enough.  If the very shape and appearance, along with significant color and shade improvements are desired, then porcelain laminate dental veneers can be the ideal option.

A veneer is a thin custom-made layer of tooth made of porcelain that fits on the outside of the tooth.  It is more conservative than a crown in that the entirety of the tooth need not be reduced down for preparation.  Often times, just a very thin amount of enamel only need be removed for preparation.  Once the veneer is placed, it can treat gaps, misalignment of teeth, heavily worn teeth, and staining or discoloration that just can't be removed from bleaching alone.  Because porcelain is ceramic, it will resist the dulling and staining that large amounts of composite on the teeth are susceptible to.  The porcelain should be the same color years or even decades later as the day they were placed.  Because composite is plastic and not ceramic, it will need to be touched up more frequently and not have the same strength that ceramic does.  For these reasons, when someone is looking to make-over their smile, porcelain laminate veneers are the restoration of choice.

The following are examples of what can be accomplished with the placement of dental veneers.
